Members of the Migrant Rights Promotion Working Group have been enthusiastically fundraising for Mae Tao Clinic since the beginning of the month, generously taking time out of their busy schedules to rattle collection tins and sell MTC T-Shirts at markets and events in Mae Sot.
Knowing the vital role that MTC plays in assisting the local migrant community through its free health, education and child protection services, the working group decided to help us out after hearing about our recent funding difficulties.
The MRPWG membership is made up of staff from many of the local CBOs and NGOs based in Mae Sot such as the International Organisation for Migration, International Rescue Committee and the Foundation for Education and Development. The working group advocates for greater rights for migrants and closely monitors developments in relation to those rights.
Today the fundraising team dropped by our office to deliver the funds raised so far, handing over an impressive (and heavy!) sum of 25,070 Thai Baht. Several thousand more has been raised through T-shirt sales.
We’d like to express our most grateful thanks to all of the members who braved the rain and volunteered to collect donations for us in the evenings and on weekends. We’re also thankful to all the people in the local community who made a contribution. The much-needed money will be spent on essential medical supplies and food for boarding house children. THANK YOU!!
