Goal 13. Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
Climate change presents the single biggest threat to development, and its widespread, unprecedented impacts disproportionately burden the poorest and most vulnerable. Urgent action to combat climate change and minimize its disruptions is integral to the successful implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. 1
Climate change has been increasingly affecting our lives these days. To combat the climate change at a local level, MTC attempts to generate a part of electricity from solar panels. Over 100 panels are up and running. In addition, our satellite clinics in Pa Hite area, Karen state, also completely rely on generated solar energy. All lighting in Mae Tao Clinic is LED, trying to reduce the use of energy. In addition, we implemented modern wastewater management system up to desired Thai public health level. The wastewater system can prevent used water in the compound of the clinic from water and earth pollution.
At Children’s Development Centre school we regularly hold special events and provide workshops to raise students’ awareness of importance of environment. Through these activities, students at their young ages are able to learn how the climate change can affect our lives and how we can take immediate action.
